MOTHER'S DAY

"And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children,

and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house,

and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down,

and when thou risest up."

(Deuteronomy 6:7)

A mother's love and prayers can change your life.

Every year in the United States, we celebrate "Mother's Day." In 1914 President Wilson signed the first Mother's Day Proclamation, setting aside the second Sunday of May to be observed "as a public expression of our love and reverence for the mothers of our country," even though we should show love, honor, and reverence to her daily. In some other countries "Mother's Day" is celebrated on different days and dates. The role of a Mother is defined as "a female parent," "the half of the Father-Mother team," "the one who gave birth to you as a child." She is the one who took care of you from a baby to an adult, with a special touch, unconditional love, and with many unimaginable sacrifices.

Cardinal Mermillod said: "A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take."

A mother's love puts the needs of her children above her own. She loves them unconditionally, not only with words, but also with actions. A mother's love does not have limits for her children. When we become adults, we begin to really appreciate her more.

I remember my mother who is with the Lord now, more than ever, especially for all the sacrifices she made for me. She was not an educated person. She also did not give me many hugs or tell me thousands of times that she loved me while I was growing up in a small village. Instead, her love was unconditional and sacrificial with many actions, and not with empty words. She did the best in her power for me. She had a fear of God even though she did not have a lot of biblical knowledge. As a religious person, she prayed for me all the time. The reverence and fear of God she had in her heart was a huge influence on me. This was so important in my life, and because of that, I had a desire to know more about God and become closer to Him. She was very proud of me, as I was of her. I am grateful to the Lord who gave me the opportunity to lead her to the LORD, according to the Bible, the last time I got to see her on this earth. Both of us as born-again Christians rejoiced for the goodness and grace of our LORD!

Remember that each heart of a child is shaped according to his mother's love and prayers.

Someone asked a mother whose children had turned out very well, the secret by which she prepared them for usefulness and for the Christian life. Without hesitation, she said,

• "When in the morning I washed my children, I prayed that they might be cleansed by the Savior's precious blood.

• When I put on their garments, I prayed that they might be arrayed in the garments of salvation and in the robe of God's righteousness.

• When I gave them food, I prayed that they might be fed with the Bread of life.

• When I started them on the road to school, I prayed that their faith might be as the shining light, brighter and brighter to the perfect day.

• When I put them to sleep, I prayed that they might be enfolded in the Savior's everlasting arms."

No wonder her children were early led to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, and became adornments to the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things!

What a joy to that mother's heart when "her children rise up and call her blessed." Now that her secret is an open one, may hosts of other mothers follow it. (Letourneau Tech's Tetourneau Now/Ministry I.J.F.P.)

• I heard about what happened to a man when he was a teenager. Before his mother went to work, she gave him some things to do around the house. When she left, he got involved with his friends and forgot all about his mother's orders. When she came back from work, he was scared to death of her because he knew from other similar situations, what would happen to him. However, this time his mother took him to his bedroom, put her arms around him and started weeping and praying. She asked the Lord, again and again, to make him a godly boy. Her prayer changed his life from that day forward when he was in his mother's arms of love. "Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?" (Romans 2:4)

• I read in a magazine once that a couple in Canada had a boy without ears. Because of his appearance, his classmates made fun of him. A donor was found while attending college, and a successful transplant operation was performed on him. After that, he was so happy with his appearance. A few months later, he received the sad news that his mother had died. When he was at the funeral, his father told him how his mother loved him. Afterward, he brushed back his wife's long hair to reveal she had no ears because she had given them to her son whom she loved so much. "Charity [love] suffereth long, and is kind;... Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things" (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

Dear precious mother, "Do you want to leave a legacy of faith?" Then MAKE SURE YOU SHARE THE LORD WITH YOUR CHILDREN! Whether they are young or grown, you have a powerful influence on the beliefs of your children. Eighty or a hundred years from now it will not matter in what house you lived, what car you drove, or how much money you had in your bank account. The world will be different because you were important in the life of your CHILDREN!

Dear precious friend, "Where is your mommy? How much do you love and appreciate her while she lives?" After their mommy dies, many kids will say how much they loved her, and remember her, and even put flowers on her grave. Yet, they never showed their real love and appreciation in words and deeds while she lived. Possibly, they never told her sincerely, even one time, "I love you, Mommy." Try not to be like them, but make sure you express your appreciation for her in thought and deed not only on Mother's Day, but every day. Think about the sacrifices your mother has made for your sake. Be sure to thank her for all she has done for you. Women who raise children have a special place in God's heart. Let your mother know she has one in yours!

Dust On Mother's Bible (Video)

There's dust on Mother's Bible

It's covers worn with age

And though it's old and wrinkled

Mama's there on every page.

The night the angels called her

Mama called me to her side

And handed me her Bible

Said "Son let God be your guide"

I picked up Mother's old Bible

To my heart I pressed it tight

And I heard her soulfully whisper

"Son I'll meet you on the other side".

I kissed my Mother's old Bible

And I wiped away the dust

Oh, you'll never know until she's gone

How you'll miss your Mother's love.

- Buck Owens Lyrics

*

The danger of the mother not raising her children for the Lord is not so much

that they will grow up not believing, but that they will believe anything.

*

The final chapter in the book of Proverbs paints a portrait of an extraordinary mother

"a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised" (31:30).

By trusting Christ as her Savior, any mother can have everything she needs

- the daily strength and guidance -

to be the kind of mother whose children

"rise up and call her blessed."

TESTIMONIES

Priest, Theologian, Author and Composer, Martin Luther always testified that much of the blessing of his life was due to the influence of his mother. It was said of her that "She was a worthy woman, distinguished above all else for her modesty and fear of God and constant communion with God in prayer."

Theologian, Philosopher and Bishop, St. Augustine became a Christian late in life. He left home to live a life in rebellion to God. His godly mother, Monica, continually and constantly prayed for his conversion. Augustine attributes his faith to his mother's persistent prayers.

Theologian and Evangelist John Wesley and his brother Charles were influenced by their mother, Susannah's prayers, and Christian faith.

Prince of Preachers Charles Spurgeon said, "I cannot tell how much I owe to the prayers of my good mother...I remember her once praying, 'Now Lord, if my children go on in sin it will not be from ignorance that they perish, and my soul must bear swift witness against them at the day of judgment if they lay not hold on Christ and claim Him as their personal Savior.?"

Evangelist, a Preacher, a leading Bible teacher, and a prolific author, Dr. G. Campbell Morgan, had four sons, and they were all preachers. Someone once came into the drawing-room when all the family was there. They thought they would see what Howard, one of the sons, was made of, so they asked him this question: "Howard, who is the greatest preacher in your family?" Howard had a great admiration for his father, and he looked straight across at him, and then without a moment's hesitation, he answered, "Mother."

President of the Navigators, Lorne Sanny once, wrote of his mother: "My mother gave birth to me in a frontier house on a Midwestern prairie. On the kitchen counter, she placed a list of the ingredients necessary for my formula. At the top of the list was 'prayer,' and that remained at the top of her list for me throughout her life...I have her to thank for firmly establishing my spiritual roots."

President George Washington said, "All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her."

President Abraham Lincoln said, "I remember my mother's prayers, and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life".

President Ronald Reagan said, "From my mother, I learned the value of prayer, how to have dreams and believe they could come true."

What is a Mother?

A mother is someone to shelter and guide us,

To love us, whatever we do,

With a warm understanding and infinite patience,

And wonderful gentleness, too.

How often a mother means swift reassurance

In soothing our small, childish fears,

How tenderly mothers watch over their children

And treasure them all through the years.

The hearth of a mother is full of forgiveness

For any mistake, big or small,

And generous always in helping her family

Whose needs she has placed above all.

A mother can utter a word of compassion

And make all our cares fall away,

She can brighten a home with the sound of her laughter

And make life delightful and gay.

A mother possesses incredible wisdom

And wonderful insight and skill-

In each human heart is that one special

corner

Which only a mother can fill!

A Child

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it"

(Proverbs 22:6)

I took a piece of plastic clay

And idly fashioned it one day;

And as my fingers pressed it still

It bent and yielded to my will.

I came again when days were past

The bit of clay was hard at last;

My early impress still it bore

And I could change it nevermore.

You take a piece of living clay

And gently form it day by day;

Molding with your power and art

A young child's soft, yielding heart.

Coming again when years are gone,

It is an adult you look upon.

Your early impress still is borne

And you can change it nevermore!

A Tribute To All Mothers

A mother is someone you can always look up to no matter how tall you grow.

In God's Image

God made mothers in his image,

He molded every part,

He gave a little extra

When he made a mother's heart.

He knew when he made mothers

to give an extra share

of love and understanding,

and a heart that really cares

He gave them a special smile

as if kissed by the golden sun,

He put a twinkle in their eye,

and then He said well done.

But when He made you, Mother

You were the greatest one by far

and I wouldn't change a single thing

for you're perfect the way you are.

Importance of Human Life - Take my hand... not my life

1. There's a preacher and wife who are very, very, poor. They already have 14 kids. Now she finds out she's pregnant with number 15. They're living in tremendous poverty. Considering their poverty and the excessive world population, would you consider recommending she get an abortion?

2. The father is sick with syphilis, the mother has TB. They have four children. The first is blind, the second is dead, the third is deaf, and the fourth has TB. She finds she's pregnant again. Given the extreme situation, would you consider recommending abortion?

3. A white man raped a 13-year-old black girl, and she got pregnant. If you were her parents, would you consider recommending abortion?

4. A teenage girl is pregnant. She's not married. Her fiancé is not the father of the baby, and he's very upset. Would you consider recommending abortion?

In the first case, you have killed John Wesley, one of the great evangelists in the 19th century.

In the second case, you have killed Beethoven.

In the third case, you have killed Ethel Waters, the great black gospel singer.

If you said yes to the fourth case, you have just declared the murder of Jesus Christ!!

The Bible in the Home

It is told of the mother of a family whose husband was an unbeliever and openly jested at religion that she nevertheless succeeded in bringing all her children up in the fear of the Lord.

When she was asked how she managed this, she said: "Because to the authority of a father I did not oppose the authority of a mother, but that of God. From their earliest years, my children have always seen the Bible on my table. This Holy Book has constituted the whole of their religious instruction. I was silent that I might allow it to speak. Did they propose a question, did they commit any fault, did they perform any good action--I opened the Bible, and the Bible answered, reproved, or encouraged them. The constant reading of the Scriptures alone has wrought the prodigy which surprises you."

Mom Gives 150%

No one deserves a special day all to herself more than today's Mom. A cartoon showed a psychologist talking to his patient: "Let's see," he said, "You spend 50 percent of your energy on your job, 50 percent on your husband, and 50 percent on your children. I think I see your problem."

A Teacher and His Students

A teacher gave her class of second graders a lesson on the magnet and what it does. The next day in a written test, she included this question: "My full name has six letters. The first one is m. I pick up things. What am I?" When the test papers were turned in, the teacher was astonished to find that almost 50 percent of the students answered the question with the word "Mother."

Mother

Quarreling between her two sons prompted the mother to rush to the kitchen. Eight-year-old Bobby and four-year-old Jackie were having a tug of war with the cookie jar. Only one cookie remained in the jar, and each boy thought it was his. Taking the cookie jar from the two youngsters, their mother calmly announced. "I'll solve the problem for you. I'll eat the last cookie myself." The boys looked up at their mother in unbelief. Then the four-year-old, with a mischievous grin on his face, said, "Oh, no, you won't, Mom. Whoever heard of a selfish mother?"

M + O + M = LOVE

Mother

A teacher put this question to little John in the arithmetic class. "John, suppose your mother made a peach pie, and there were 10 of you at the table... your mother and father and eight children... how much of the pie would you get?"

"A ninth, Ma'am," was the prompt answer. "No, John. Now pay attention," said the teacher. "There are 10 of you. Ten, remember. Don't you know your fractions?" "Yes, Ma'am," was the swift replay of little John, "I know my fractions, but I know my mother, too. She'd say that she didn't want any pie."

Mothers, your unselfishness makes an impression on the little ones.

Little Johnny And His Mother

Little Johnny watched, fascinated, as his mother gently rubbed cold cream on her face.

"Why are you rubbing cold cream on your face, Mommy?" he asked.

"To make myself beautiful," said his mother.

A few minutes later, she began removing the cream with a tissue.

"What's the matter?" asked Little Johnny. "Giving up?"

Make sure you express your appreciation for your mother

in thought and deed not only on Mother's Day, but every day.
